Will My Health Insurance Cover My Virtual Visit Fee?

* This article is for HealthTap members with employer-affiliated plans.

Please note that HealthTap does not decide anything about your coverage; we just relay information from your insurance company to let you know if your insurance indicates it can cover part of, all of, or none of the cost of your virtual visit.

To find out if your Urgent Care or Primary Care visit can be covered — and if so, how much can be covered —  input your insurance information on the “Confirm payment” screen by following these steps:
  1. Select “+ Add insurance
  2. Select the “Health Insurance Provider” text box
  3. Type your insurance provider’s name
  4. Select your insurance provider from the drop-down list that appears
  5. Select the “Member ID” text box and type your member ID
  6. If you are the policyholder, select “Yes” and then select “Save
  7. If you are not the policyholder, select “No” and enter the requested policyholder details before selecting “Save
The “Confirm payment” screen will update with any details we receive about your eligible coverage for a virtual visit on HealthTap. If your insurance covers part of or all of your virtual visit fee, the “Today’s total” amount will be updated accordingly. You can pay any amount due for the visit in the “Enter payment details” section of the screen. If your insurance plan does not cover any of your virtual visit fee, you will see a charge for the full visit fee.

The following are reasons why your virtual visit might not be covered:

  • You haven’t met your deductible
  • Your insurance company doesn’t cover this type of telemedicine visit
  • Your health insurance company could not tell us your coverage at this time. In this case , , we recommend contacting the insurance company directly for more information. You might be able to file a reimbursement claim for your virtual visit. Please note that HealthTap will not file a claim for you, so please make sure to get clear instructions to submit the claim on your own.
